The “Child Maltreatment-Related Injuries During the COVID-19 Pandemic in California,” webinar be held Thursday, September 29, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM PT by the California Department of Public Health, Injury and Violence Prevention Branch (CDPH/IVPB) and the California Department of Social Services, Office of Child Abuse Prevention (CDSS/OCAP)’s, Essentials for Childhood (EfC) Initiative and KidsData, a program of PRB. This webinar will highlight data collected from the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) on non-fatal child abuse and neglect injuries treated in California emergency departments and hospitals from 2016 to 2020. Orion Stewart, PhD of CDPH/IVPB and Beth Jarosz and Nathan Porter of PRB, will describe the frequency, severity, and demographics of child maltreatment-related injuries before and during the pandemic; show how to access the data; and share strategies and resources that can be used by child and family service providers, community coalitions, and others to guide efforts to prevent child abuse, neglect, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and improve the health and wellbeing of California’s children.
